The general requirement for admission to the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Programme is as follows:

  • WASSCE HoldersCREDIT PASSES (A1-C6) in Six (6)subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.
  • SSSCE Holders: PASSES (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study
  • Candidates awaiting the MAY/JUNE, 2020 WASSCE and NABPTEX RESULTS can also apply
2. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advance Level Applicants

The Wiawso College of Education Cut Off Points for General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advance Level Applicants are as follows.

Applicants must:                                                                                           

  • have passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
  • have credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subjects (for Science students).
3. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants

  • have passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better).

4. Technical and Vocational Education and Training Applicants

 A

  • Possess Certificate II in three (3) relevant trade areas awarded by TEU, NVTI, City & Guilds and other authorised awarding bodies in addition to NABPTEX Certificate II in lieu of passes in English and Mathematics.
  • Have NABPTEX certificate II in relevant trade areas in addition to three (3) credit passes in WASSCE/SSSCE core subjects including English and Mathematics.

B. Posses a National Certificate II qualification in Competency Based Training (CBT) in a relevant trade area awarded by TEU on the National TVET Qualification Framework (NTVETQF).

ABOUT WIAWSO COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Wiawso College of Education (popularly called Legon of the West) traces its origin to Kumasi. The college was formally opened in 1952 under the name Wiawso Body Corporate Training College. The college pioneered with three tutorial staff and twenty nine students in February 13, 1952. Mr. J.T.N. Yankah who was the acting Principal, Mr. B. A. Quarcoo, senior house master, Mr. E. O. Nortey, tutor and Mr. R. S. A. Kwarteng as the college clerk. Otumfuo Sir Agyemang Prempeh II, the Asantehene, in the company of an interim board of the college paid a visit to the college on February 16, 1952 to add his royal blessings to the birth of WATICO.
